Prepping Your Home for Colder Months
As we all hunker down for the chilliest months of the year, it’s time to prepare your home, so that you’re all ready for when the coldest fronts hit.
Here are 3 ways you can start:
- Check your home’s heating – Most heating units last about 12 – 15 years, which can go surprisingly fast. To check, you can hire a contractor who can inspect and give you an accurate report, as well as solutions, if needed. If it’s not time to change your heating system, you should at least consider changing out the filters.
- Hire a chimney sweep and order/chop firewood – Those cozy fires are going to be everything when the temperature drops, so make sure to hire a chimney sweep company who can ensure your fireplace will be safe to use. Don’t forget to also stock up on enough (and not rotten) firewood!
- Seal wood and hard surfaces – If you have wood on the exterior of your house and/or a concrete driveway, you’ll need to make sure they’re protected from the elements. You can apply a concrete sealer to cracked surfaces and paint and caulk the wood around your home to prevent damage.
Happy prepping!
